Construyendo recuerdos

Hoy te levantas erguido
Desde las brumas de las palabras de ayer
Para que muchos sepan tu historia, que hoy
escribo.
Estás en la espera aún con tus gavetas
abiertas y vacías
Esperando que las llenes
Con tus palabras, con tu silencio,
con tus anhelos,
con tus lágrimas,
Toma el tiempo que tienes hoy,
así los recuerdos no se nos vayan.
Aquí tienes la llave del tiempo,
para abrir y cerrar horizontes.
Te espero en el andén del tiempo
Vengo de pasado, lleno de retazos
Toma estos retazos; construye el mañana.
Llevo en mis hombros las comidas
compartidas,
Las comidas interrumpidas,
Las despedidas Los “volveré”
Los años idos los llevo grabados en mis
arrugas.
Espero que salgas de tu refugio
Para que ofrezcas un retazo de tiempo.
Escribe sobre mis hombros
Para así poder permanecer
Sobre las brumas de los años que se van sin
decir “Adiós”.

Building memories

Today you rise proud and firm
From the mist over yesterday’s words
Many would know your story which I write
today.
You are here, still waiting with open and
empty drawers.
Waiting to be filled up
With your words, with your silence,
with your dreams,
with your tears.
Take today’s time,
so, memories won’t fly away.
Here you have, the time’s key:
to open and to close horizons.
I wait for you at the threshold of time
I come for the past filled with fragments
Take these traces and build a future.
I carry on my shoulders, the shared meals,
The interrupted meals,
The farewells and the “I will be back”.
Years gone, I have them seared on my
wrinkles.
Hope you came out from your hiding
to give an offering of a piece of time
Write on my shoulders
Then we can remain
Across the mist of years gone without
saying “goodbye”.

Artist Statement

Writing Desk exemplifies the resourcefulness and whimsy that goes into all my furniture. It is made mostly of recycled materials. My technical expertise shows in the hand cut dovetailed drawers made of butternut and Himalayan cedar.

I create sensational furniture that engages viewers physically, visually and emotionally. My sense of humour and subversive nature are conveyed through each piece. I experiment with technique and materials combining traditional woods used in furniture making with recycled metals, concrete and vintage plastic laminate. Salvaged bits from old plastic kitchen tables are a favourite source of mine. It’s a material with a history that triggers memory and conjures narrative. Owing to my training as a fine cabinet maker, my furniture is constructed meticulously by hand to the highest standard.

Démarche de l’artiste

Je crée des meubles qui suscitent l’intérêt des spectateurs et les interpellent physiquement, visuellement et émotionnellement. Mon sens de l’humour et ma nature subversive transparaissent dans chaque pièce. J’expérimente la technique et les matériaux en combinant les bois traditionnellement utilisés dans la fabrication de meubles avec des métaux recyclés : du béton et du plastique stratifié vintage. Les morceaux récupérés de vieilles tables de cuisine en plastique sont une de mes matières de prédilection. C’est un matériau qui a une histoire, qui ravive la mémoire et qui fait naître des récits. Grâce à ma formation d’ébéniste, je construis mes meubles méticuleusement à la main en respectant les normes les plus strictes.
