Thandiwe McCarthy

Thandiwe McCarthy is a writer, spoken word poet, and 7th generation Black Canadian. Thandiwe has published essays with the Nova Scotia Advocate exploring his Black identity. In 2020 Thandiwe has performed his poetry at Atlantic Canada’s largest literary event: Frye Festival and UNB’s 2020 Art Centre exhibit: ‘Rediscovering the Roots of Black New Brunswickers’. As a community advocate, he has co-founded the New Brunswick Black Artists Alliance and helped republish the history book titled ‘The Blacks of New Brunswick’.

 Thandiwe McCarthy lives in Fredericton, New Brunswick and has recently completed his memoir titled Social Oblivion: Raised Black in Canada

Thandiwe McCarthy est écrivain, poète de la parole et il est un Canadien noir dont la famille est au pays depuis sept générations. Thandiwe McCarthy a publié des essais dans le Nova Scotia Advocate, où il explorait son identité noire. En 2020, Thandiwe McCarthy a présenté sa poésie lors du plus grand événement littéraire du Canada atlantique : le Festival Frye ainsi que dans le cadre de l’exposition 2020 du Centre des arts de l’Université du Nouveau-Brunswick : Rediscovering the Roots of Black New Brunswickers. En tant que défenseur de la communauté noire, il a cofondé l’alliance des artistes noirs du Nouveau‑Brunswick (New Brunswick Black Artists Alliance) et a aidé à faire republier le livre d’histoire intitulé The Blacks of New Brunswick.
