You Wear The Forest
You wear the forest on your head.
Walking on the mossy side of the ridge
sculpted by tree roots along the floor.
To the left, chiffon silk
fused with raw merino wool
reveals the felt universe.
Leaves model a bark pattern.
To the right, resting upon layers
of up-cycle material,
a pinecone—each scale wired
to open and to close
with the fashion of the seasons.
To the left, a single birch sapling,
fabric massaged in,
pretends for the canopy.
To the right, braided horsehair
bound to stem, looped on, stitched down,
an overflowing fruit fall,
questioning dead matter,
the certainty of solid ground.
Who else has stepped foot on this place?
Right here, by grosgrain lip,
worn path tilted up ahead,
elastic strap a trail that brings you
right back to the understory.
